The short version
Tempo64 runs entirely on your device. We don't have a server. We don't collect your games. We don't track you. The data you put into the app — your PGN, your generated videos, your audio mix — never leaves your iPhone or iPad unless you explicitly share it via the share sheet or save it to Photos.
What we don't do
- We do not have a backend server that processes your games.
- We do not collect analytics about how you use the app.
- We do not have third-party SDKs for advertising, attribution, or tracking.
- We do not collect personal information like your name, email, or chess account.
- We do not sell, share, or otherwise transmit any user data, because we don't have any.
Permissions Tempo64 asks for
Tempo64 only requests permissions necessary for the features you use:
- Photo Library — Add Only: required so the app can save the videos it generates into your Photos library. Tempo64 cannot read your existing photos. The permission is requested the first time you tap "Save to Photos".
- Notifications: optional. Used solely to send you a local notification when a render finishes while you're in another app. The notification is generated and posted by your iPhone — it does not go through any server. Decline at the prompt and the app continues to work.
Local processing
PGN parsing, board rendering, audio mixing, and video encoding all happen on your device using Apple's native frameworks (AVFoundation, SwiftUI, Core Graphics) and an open-source chess library. The bundled sound effects are included with the app and do not require a network connection.
Children's privacy
Tempo64 does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is suitable for all ages.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Tempo64 adds features that change how data is handled (for example, an optional cloud backup), this policy will be updated and the change called out in the app's release notes. Until then, the policy above stands.
